‘I don’t know why we have this bar because no one in the family really drinks’: Tour Ahaan Panday’s family home in Mumbai

“To enter the house, you actually need to scan your fingerprint… I’ve lived here for so many years and for some reason my fingerprint isn’t in the system… unfortunately, since I’m living overseas right now, I’m not important enough to have my fingerprint,” Alanna joked.

From the front yard that’s hosted everything from haldi ceremonies to 21st birthdays, to a seating area built under a tree, every corner is personal.

The house stays bustling with friends, family, and spontaneous hangouts, according to Alanna. “Even though there are just four people that live in this house, there are so many people constantly over… We always have friends over. We always have our family over. My dad has meetings. So… we need to accommodate a lot of bodies.”

The home splits its social spaces into two large living rooms, both designed with relaxed wood-and-glass bohemian touches and drenched in natural light. The second was previously an outdoor patio, now enclosed to combat Mumbai’s relentless heat.

The kitchen is a hub of chaos, with two sections for prep and cooking. A massive china cabinet holds more mugs than four people could ever drink from, but that’s mom logic for you.

“We have a little bar… I don’t know why we have this bar because no one in the family really drinks. My mom and dad don’t drink alcohol. So, it’s actually always empty,” Alanna shared.

Still, it’s stocked when parties demand it, because even celebrities need hosting spaces for real-life celebrations.

The second floor is a mix of privacy and play. Ahaan’s room sits beside a game room where he and his friends host board game nights and “Knowledge Is Power” sessions. “A lot of Ahaan’s friends hang out here, which is why it doesn’t match the aesthetic of the rest of the house,” Alanna joked.

Alanna and her husband Ivor’s suite dominates the top floor. Once a sun-baked terrace, it’s now a breezy, glass-walled sanctuary filled with soft furnishings and cool air. “This floor is actually my favorite section of the entire house… We need a little space within the house where we could just, you know, have our little home.”
