Shilpa Shetty Kundra has two breakfasts on these days, and ‘butter’ is an essential part of it: ‘I like to keep it natural’
I try to avoid all kinds of sweeteners, added Shilpa Shetty Kundra

Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s preferences for healthy eating always inspire us. The Dhadkan actor recently shared that she has two breakfasts if she starts her day early. “If I start very early in the morning, there are two breakfasts. I have two eggs, either with avocado or on whole wheat toast with butter. With butter. And then I have my tea with coconut sugar. I try to avoid all kinds of sweeteners. I like to keep it natural and clean,” she told Pinkvilla.
Taking a cue from her emphasis on consuming butter, let’s understand how one can turn it into a healthy and guilt-free indulgence with the home-made variety.
Certified diabetes educator and consultant dietitian Kanikka Malhotra said that homemade butter, particularly from grass-fed cream, offers distinct metabolic advantages. “Butter contains 12 to 15 per cent medium- and short-chain fatty acids, which the body metabolises differently than long-chain fatty acids, providing efficient energy utilisation and enhanced satiety,” said Malhotra.
According to her, grass-fed butter contains “five times more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) than butter from grain-fed cows”, a bioactive fatty acid linked to improved body composition. “Grass-fed butter boasts higher amounts of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids and butyrate,” said Malhotra.
She explained that this butyrate content is particularly significant for gut health. “Higher butyrate production lowers inflammation and diabetes risks, along with reducing the risk of colon cancer,” said Malhotra.

In fact, “butyrate enhanced mitochondrial activity and fat burning”, maintained healthy blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels, and improved insulin sensitivity, making homemade butter a metabolically favourable choice when consumed as part of a balanced diet.
However, just like everything else, portion control is key.
“One should not go overboard with butter consumption and only have it as part of a balanced diet and regular physical activity plan,” reflected Malhotra.
