Have you been eating out a lot lately? Well, the pleasure of eating out can sometimes come with a hefty price tag: weight gain. If you’re dreading packing on those unwanted pounds after gorging on that restaurant meal, fret not. Recently, nutritionist Richa Gangani took to Instagram to share her “cheat sheet to avoid weight gain the next day” after eating out.

1. Eat a light dinner

Try going easy on your stomach and balance out the heavy lunch with a moderately light dinner. Giving your stomach a break can help mitigate the impact of a calorie-laden meal.

2. Drink warm water or green tea

Stimulate fat burning and aid digestion by sipping on warm liquids like green tea or water. These beverages can kickstart your metabolism and help your digestive system act faster.

3.  Go for a small walk

Combat bloating and that heavy feeling by taking a leisurely walk. Even a short stroll can aid digestion and leave you feeling refreshed after a hefty meal.

4. Don’t try crash dieting

Resist the urge to compensate for indulgence by resorting to crash diets. Starving yourself is neither sustainable nor healthy. Instead, listen to your body and eat according to hunger cues rather than attempting drastic measures.

5. Don’t skip meals

Skipping meals in an attempt to “make up” for overindulgence is counterproductive. It can slow down your metabolism and lead to unhealthy eating patterns. Consistency and balance are key for sustainable weight management.

Additionally, Ritika Samaddar, regional head – south zone, nutrition and dietetics, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket told indianexpress.com that making small changes while eating out can also make a difference.

“Firstly, eat out only once or maximum twice a week. Cut down on portion size. Avoid consuming sweetened beverages and instead opt for fresh lime water, coconut water or chaas (butter milk). Always order a plate of salad or a vegetable soup as a side dish, as it will fill you up sooner, keeping calorie intake low. Hydrating well with plain water will also satiate you. Lastly, most restaurants mention the calories content of the food items, so read the labels or nutrition facts before ordering,” she said.

Remember to prioritise balance and moderation in your eating habits to support your overall well-being. By following these simple yet effective tips, you can enjoy eating out without the worry of unwanted weight gain.
