They keep getting something through the internet constantly. There are a lot of diversions. There is less time for family. A different member has come into your life, which is your mobile phone. I think they are more close to worlds that are not theirs,” said Sood.

He added that people now have little patience to listen to each other. “There is little patience to listen. If you can’t listen to someone, I think it’s very unfortunate. In today’s world of the internet, it is important to listen to each other while keeping your phones away. It is important to talk about problems. If they can, I would say that it will solve a lot of problems,” Sood told CurlyTales.

Let’s learn what experts have to say

Being constantly digitally wired can strain any relationship due to multiple factors. “It can change the nature of the relationship as the power balance, sense of control, and levels of dependency can get significantly altered. Communication can get impacted,” said clinical psychologist Kamna Chhibber.

A critical aspect of any relationship is mutual respect for the partner and what they bring to the relationship.

“Those couples who can appreciate the effort and listen to their significant others maintain an optimum level of support, making the relationship healthy. Crucially important in this regard is the ability to also be happy about their success and be there to face issues together. This strengthens the core of your relationship and ensures a positive experience that underlines even the challenges that may come about,” Chhibber said.

Experts urge people to spend time without phones. “It encourages both people to share the good and the bad and come together more effectively to tackle the different life scenarios,” said Chhibber.
