The night of the 95th Academy Awards was one filled with A-list celebrities from across the world donning an array of extravagant designer ensembles. From Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren to Valentino and Elie Saab – there was hardly a luxury brand ensemble which didn’t appear on the champagne-coloured carpet of Oscars 2023. Amidst these was director Daniel Scheinert, who turned up in a tuxedo from a local thrift store.
For the awards ceremony, which witnessed Scheinert-directed ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once‘ sweeping numerous honours, the 35-year-old opted for a red button-down shirt worn underneath a black blazer, a black tie, a multicoloured pocket square, and a pair of black pants. He was accompanied by his mother, Becky Scheinert, who was seen wearing a blue dress with the word ‘mom’ embroidered on it.
“We think that it’s incredible. Daniel is kind of known for representing his state. I think he’s worn an Alabama Crimson Tide T-shirt to another event and a camouflage poncho that belonged to his granddad,” Jennifer Kritner, Unclaimed Baggage’s vice president of retail and company culture, was quoted as saying by the outlet.
Kritner added that the company invited his mother to shop with them for her Oscars gown. “We actually invited her to come shop with us for her Oscar gown. It was really cool to connect with the family over such a fun topic,” she said.
She further shared that suits and tuxedos are among the best deals at the store, priced between 20-to-10 per cent off their retail value. Since it can be tricky to find one that fits just right, Kritner said that Scheinert finding “a tall, very slim cut tuxedo that fit him like a glove” was “a little bit like putting on a glass slipper.”
Expressing her happiness over the first Unclaimed Baggage purchase making it to the Oscars, she concluded, “We’re so honoured that we could be included in his big moment. We’re so proud of Daniel and his Alabama roots and just so encouraged to see one of our very own success in such an incredible way.”
Becky said that his son has always been very articulate. “I still make him crazy by telling him he says ‘like’ too much. A mother always nitpicks. But I think he’s done very well. Now, he and I will continue to arm-wrestle and argue about what he wears,” she said.
