For the Win

Anamika Khanna's collection featured track pants, long jackets on models, who all wore bindis.

WHEN news first broke that Kolkata designer Anamika Khanna was going to showcase her debut ready-to-wear collection at the Amazon India Fashion Week, it caused a stir in the industry. Thrilled that the genius couturier was going to enter the world of pret, we made our way to the outdoor area at the venue. Khanna’s prêt wear was an extension of her couture sensibilities, albeit with a sporty-chic twist.

Models walked in sporting white bindis, white kicks and a small bun, dressed in kurta-pyjamas, kurtas with lungis, track pants with two black stripes on the side, long jackets with jeans, and saris.

Khanna’s colour palette started from whites, moved on to prints and also added indigo and red. Delhi band Ska Vengers provided the background score as they played live at the venue.

Minimalistic and practical, a few pieces also had red and bronze embellishments on the sleeves, and patchwork embroidery on jackets. Khanna refused to compromise on the fabrics, and stuck to her favourite dupion silk, with glimpses of some cotton and khadi. Denim too made an appearance in the form of jeans, which were paired with long jackets.

The Anamika Khanna signature was strong throughout the range, and we were glad that the fluidity one associates with her couture gems has been kept intact with her ready-to-wear range too.
