A 13-YEAR-OLD girl was allegedly gangraped in Sitapur district when she was returning from a farm on Tuesday, police said. Five men were arrested and a video of the crime was found on their mobile phones, they said. Medical examination of the girl confirmed rape, police added.
Police said initial investigations indicated that two of the accused raped the girl while four others, who were also present at the spot, recorded a video of the crime.
Five of them have been arrested while one is absconding. Sitapur Superintendent of Police, L R Kumar, said, “We have registered an FIR and a probe is on.”
Another police officer said the girl had gone out to relieve herself when she was accosted by the six accused. “They took her to a nearby farm and two of them raped her. They left her there and she later returned home. On Wednesday, her parents came to the police station and gave a written complaint,” said the police officer.
Additional Superintendent of Police (South) Mahendra P Chauhan said, “Medical examination has confirmed rape.” A police officer said the girl suffered minor injuries and is stable now.
The accused were booked under IPC sections 376-D (gangrape), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and relevant sections of the POCSO Act, police said.
