National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Monday reiterated his demand for dissolution of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, but told party workers that the situation in the state, especially in the Valley, was not conducive for polls.

Hum log election larengey jab bhi woh ayengey, lekin sachai yeh bhi hai ki jahan Jammu mein halaat iske liye theek hein, wahin par Kashmir mein bahut kharab hein (We will contest elections whenever they are announced, but the truth is that though situation is congenial in Jammu for polls, it is worse in the Valley these days),” he said, while directing party workers to maintain contact with the people and apprise them of the party’s mission of communal harmony and peace in the state.

The former J&K Chief Minister said “dissolution of the Assembly is the only cure to all the rumours of horse-trading”.

“We are not demanding immediate elections as we also understand that to create conducive conditions for elections in Kashmir will take time…but, at least, in the meantime, we can put to end all these unnecessary and insane rumour-mongering,” he said, claiming that the situation in the Valley had not improved even after imposition of Governor’s rule in the state.

Governor’s rule was imposed in the state after the BJP withdrew its support from the ruling alliance on June 19.

“I repeatedly request the Governor that we do not need anything from you, except that you restore the situation to that (which) existed when I (had) left office after the…2014 Assembly polls and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed took over as Chief Minister in 2015,” Omar said in Jammu.
