After an eventful day marked by the resignation of former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari from Rajya Sabha and his supporters heading to Delhi, there is a lull in Uttarakhand for the time being with all eyes set on the forthcoming meeting of the BJPs national executive on June 20 and 21. This meeting is to be preceded by a meeting of theBJPs office bearers on June 19. Chief Minister BC Khanduri had left for Nagpur on Wednesday to participate in some rituals following the death of his brother last week. Political circles are abuzz with talks about whether the BJPs central leadership will take any action against Koshiyari for having resigned from the Rajya Sabha without taking permission from the party or whether there will be a change in leadership in the state that has been witnessing an internal struggle within the party for the last ten months. Koshiyaris resignation has been followed by spate of resignations from smaller functionaries of the BJP in Kumaon area. These functionaries had been holding various offices in different cells of the BJP like the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM),Womens Cell etc. Among those who have resigned was the BJYM president Gajraj Singh Bisht. Rajender Singh Rawat who resigned as in-charge of the partys Pithoragarh city unit told The Indian Express,Like Koshiyari,we too want to quit our offices and work for strengthening the party at the grass root level. Atleast three dozen persons have resigned from various cells in Pithoragarh alone. Meanwhile,a legislator from anti Khanduri camp said that whatever decision is to come will come only after June 21. The central leadership is too tied down with the meeting for the time being. But we are sure something will happen after June 21, he said. On the other hand various ministers of the Khanduri cabinet continue to carry out their routine work. Functionaries close to Khanduri disclosed that the government was functioning smoothly.
