Shopian case: SIT submits status report

J-K HC decided to wait for Supreme Court ,where the special petition filed by former SP Shopian Javid Mattoo and DSP Rohit Baskotra comes up for hearing.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court,hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Kashmir Bar Association on Shopian rape-murder case Thursday decided to wait for Supreme Court ,where the special petition filed by former SP Shopian Javid Mattoo and DSP Rohit Baskotra comes up for hearing on Friday.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the J-K police that is probing the Shopian rape and murder case,however,submitted its status report on Thursday before the Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Barin Ghosh and Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir in a sealed envelope. The Division Bench decided to keep the envelope sealed and wait for the Supreme Court which is hearing the special petition.

The report was handed over to the court by Advocate General Ishaq Qadri,while as IGP Farooq Khan,also the incharge of SIT was present in the court. On behalf of Bar,which has filed the PIL,Zaffar Shah was present in the court.

After an SPL was filed by former SP Shopian and his deputy in the Supreme Court on July 17,the Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam stayed Jammu and Kashmir High Court’s direction to conduct narco-analysis test on the two police officers and issued notice to High Court Bar Association and directed the State government to file their objections. The SC is to hear the case on Friday.
