Lalu’s aide Shyam Razak quits, likely to join JD-U

In a setback to RJD chief Lalu Prasad, his close confidant and national General Secretary Shyam Razak resigned from the Bihar Assembly.

In a setback to RJD chief Lalu Prasad, his close confidant and national General Secretary Shyam Razak resigned from the Bihar Assembly on Saturday. He is likely to join the ruling JD(U) in a day or two in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other senior party leaders here,a JD(U) spokesman claimed.

Razak submitted his resignation letter to secretary of the state assembly Surendra Prasad Sharma, who faxed it to Speaker Udai Narain Choudhary, currently in New Delhi.

The Speaker has accepted Razak’s resignation,Sharma said adding that now onwards,he ceases to be a member of the House.

Razak, considered very close to the former Railway minister, was a three-time member of the state assembly since 1995 and remained a minister for nearly nine years in the Lalu-Rabri government.

Razak was sulking ever since he lost to JD(U) in the last Lok Sabha elections in Jamui (SC) seat. He had charged RJD workers with “not working whole-heartedly” for him during the elections which led to his defeat.

Razak had recently been critical of the style of functioning of Prasad.

JD(U) is likely to nominate him for the by-poll for Phulwari (SC) assembly seat, which has fallen vacant with his resignation.

RJD is has recently been facing a spate of desertions, which began with Prasad’s high-profile brother-in-law Anirudh alias Sadhu Yadav and another senior leader Ramai Ram revolting against the RJD chief and joining Congress following denial of party ticket in the Lok Sabha polls.

Prasad suffered another setback when his close aide and MLC Bhim Singh resigned from the party and joined the JD(U).

Former RJD MP Vijay Krishna too had joined the JD(U) just before the elections. RJD could win only four of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, down from 22 seats it got in 2004.
