Injured Police officer dies

Inspector Shabir Ahmad Bhat,succumbed to injuries on Wednesday afternoon.

A police officer,who was critically injured in a suspected militant attack last week,succumbed to injuries in SMHS hospital on Wednesday afternoon in Srinagar,officials said.

Inspector Shabir Ahmad Bhat,had suffered multiple organ failure after being shot by unidentified pistol-borne militants on June 29. Bhat was fired upon by the gunmen immediately after he came out of his Iqbalabad residence in the city on last Wednesday night on hearing repeated knocks at the main entrance.

The gunmen fled the scene after the shooting under the cover of darkness,they said,adding the officer,who was posted in the telecommunication wing of the police,was rushed to a hospital.

He had received three bullets in the abdomen and thigh and failed to respond to the treatment. Bhat was put on life support system but was declared dead by a team of doctors monitoring his condition on Wednesday,they said.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the shooting.
