Making an appeal to the people to maintain peace by exercising restraint, state BJP unit president Surya Pratap Shahi accused the three parties of handling the sensitive Ayodhya issue from a political viewpoint.

He stressed that for his party it was a matter of national identity, faith and belief.

Shahi told reporters that leaders such as Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh and SP state president Akhilesh Yadav were issuing “irresponsible statements” on the matter.

“RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and BJP leaders have already made it clear that only a legal course would be taken on the Ayodhya issue,” Shahi said.

The BJP leader also charged the BSP government in UP with taking extreme stand on security measures in view of the Friday’s verdict, which he claimed was creating fear among the people. These extreme steps were vitiating the atmosphere,he added.
