Red Fort Blast: NIA arrests Umar Nabi’s another aide who was involved in modifying drones, trying to make rockets

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, an alleged co-conspirator and close aide of Umar Nabi, the man who drove the i20 car that exploded near the Red Fort on November 10, claiming 12 lives so far. This comes a day after the NIA made its first arrest in the case.

The NIA identified the man as Kasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district. “He was an active co-conspirator behind the attack and had worked closely with the terrorist, Umar Nabi, to plan the terror carnage,” a NIA spokesperson said.

“Wani was arrested from Srinagar. Probe has revealed that he allegedly provided technical support for carrying out terror attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the blast,” the spokesperson added.

On Sunday, the NIA had arrested Amir Rashid Ali, a Kashmir-based aide of Umar, a resident of Pulwama district and an assistant professor in the general medicine department of Al Falah University in Faridabad.

It was in Ali’s name that the Hyundai i20 involved in the blast was registered. He was arrested from Delhi, where he was brought for questioning, by the NIA. “Amir had come to Delhi to facilitate the purchase of the car, which was eventually used as a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device to trigger the blast,” the spokesperson had said.
