Hitting out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks in the US on the Election Commission, the BJP Monday called him a “traitor” who, whenever he goes abroad, does not miss sharing his hateful thoughts towards India and the country’s democratic systems.
Describing Gandhi as a “crown prince” of the “royal family” who has seen power for decades, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan attributed his comments to “irritation” at the recognition of India’s “glorious democratic traditions” globally.
In a post on X, Pradhan said, “…Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has once again questioned the credibility of the Election Commission from a foreign land…whenever Rahul Gandhi is abroad, he does not miss sharing his hateful thoughts towards India and India’s democratic systems. In fact, the ‘crown prince’ of the ‘royal’ family, who has been in power for decades, is irritated by the recognition India’s glorious democratic traditions are getting at the global level. This is the reason why he does not miss any opportunity to insult the country and its citizens…”
Pradhan added that “the frustration of continuous defeats is clearly visible on Rahul Gandhi’s face.”
Addressing a press conference earlier in the day, Patra attacked the Congress’s nationwide campaign to “expose BJP’s lies” in the National Herald case. “…Chor machaye shor… from today, the Congress’s senior leaders will go to different parts of the country to do press conferences to save ma-beta (Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi) …A person who, along with his mother, is out on bail on a bond of `50,000, and thinks that people will believe him when he defames the country while in a foreign land, is delusional.”
“Rahul Gandhi, you will not be able to do politics in India, go to some other country… if you make a hole in the same plate in which you eat, you will be called a traitor… You are a traitor not just because you defame the country and allege that its democracy is lacking on foreign land but also because you have usurped public property worth several crores for your benefit,” he said.
Referring to the ED chargesheet in the case, Patra said it was “frustration” related to this that had led Gandhi to make the comments “defaming the nation and its great democracy” on foreign soil.
He said it was ironic that when Gandhi had travelled to the US to “defame Bharat”, US Vice President J D Vance was in India. “We should recall that the same thing was done by Rahul ji and all their leaders when the Commonwealth (Games in 2010) were on…Rahul ji calls the ECI compromised in the US, referring to the Maharashtra Assembly election results,” Patra said.
“I want to ask him, the Jharkhand Assembly elections also happened then; did you enter into a compromise with the ECI then? …Priyanka (Gandhi) Vadra also won the polls during the bye elections held during the same period… Was this because she, too, with Robert Vadra’s mediation, entered into a compromise with the EC? Is this why she won, or was it because of her hard work?” he said.
