Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the chief minister was the final authority in the state government.

Sukhbir was reacting claims that chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Inderbir Singh Bolaria managed to win assistance from Food and Civil Supply Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon and Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi for the “development” of his constituency, Amritsar South.

Bolaria had earlier agitated against Sukhbir’s plan to setup a solid waste management plan in his constituency. “No project can start without our consent. No one can twist our arm to do certain things. And no individual has the power to implement these projects on his own,” Sukhbir said.

When asked why Bolaria did not credit him for projects in his constituency, Sukhbir said, “All the power resides with the chief minister of Punjab. I had started these projects. I had made commitments towards these projects. I have been monitoring the projects.”

“We are a democratic party. Bolaria had come to me and made a related request. These projects have been in the works for a long time,” claimed Sukhbir.

The government faced flak from the opposition when Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not announce any special package for Punjab during his visit to the the state on Friday.

“We (Punjabis) raise our hopes whenever someone comes to Punjab. But we (Punjab government) have met and continue to meet central government ministers and manage to bring many projects to Punjab. Now I am in touch with union finance minister Arun Jaitley to ask him for assistance to fight militancy in the state”

Sukhbir Badal took a jibe at his own partyman and senior leader Balwant Singh Ramoowalia who had formed the Lok Bhalai Party and contested many unsuccessful elections before making a comeback to SAD(B).

“Earlier people had to pay money to enjoy the comedy of Bhagwant Mann. Now they have been getting entertainment free of cost. Bhagwant Mann should learn from Balwant Singh Ramoowalia,” said Sukhbir.

He explained, “Ramoowalia would often say to me that he managed very impressive crowd in his election rallies (during period he was president of Lok Bhalai Party) but never managed to save the deposit after elections. He could never understand why people could not vote for him. AAP will meet the same fate.”
