Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday laid the foundation stone of the international cricket stadium in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi.

Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath were among the dignitaries present at the event. Prior to his speech, PM Modi was presented with a signed bat by BCCI president Roger Binny and BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

Starting his speech with a ‘Har Har Mahadev’ chant, PM Modi said that the stadium will be dedicated to ‘Mahadev’.

“This stadium in the city of ‘Mahadev’ will be dedicated to ‘Mahadev’ himself. The sportspersons here will benefit from the construction of an international stadium in Kashi,” he said, adding that the stadium will become the star of the Purvanchal region.

“There was a time when parents used to scold their children for playing sports, but that is no longer true. When sports infrastructure is built in an area, it acts as an incentive not just for young sporting talent but also spurs the local economy,” he added.

“PM Modi is laying the foundation stone for International Cricket Stadium Varanasi by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Uttar Pradesh for the first time. I welcome PM Modi on behalf of every sports enthusiast in the state,” says CM Adityanath said.
