A total of 50,268 cases are under trial at different courts of Tripura till October 31, 2024, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said at the winter session of the state legislative assembly today.
“There are a total of 50,268 cases among which 13,108 civil cases and 37,160 criminal cases are under-trial in state courts. Of total cases, 945 comprising 809 civil cases and 136 criminal cases are under-trial at High Court of Tripura. In comparison, 49,323 cases including 12,299 civil cases and 37,024 criminal cases are under trial in Subordinates Court”, said CM Saha while replying to a question moved by opposition CPIM MLA Nirmal Biswas during the session at Assembly.
In case of under-trial rape cases, CM Saha stated that a total of 429 rape cases are under-trial in courts of the state till November 25 in 2024, among which 28 are at High Court of Tripura and another 401 at Subordinates Court.
CM stated that verdicts were delivered in total 105 rape cases comprising 14 at the High Court of Tripura and 91 at Subordinates Court of Tripura in 2021.
Earlier in 2022 and 2023, verdicts were delivered in 186 and 226 rape cases.
Of 186 cases, verdicts for 14 cases were given at High Court of Tripura and 172 at Sub-ordinates Court of Tripura.
Likewise, verdicts were given in total 226 cases comprising 22 at the High Court of Tripura and 204 at Subordinates Court of Tripura in 2023.
Verdicts in total 149 cases including 14 at the High Court of Tripura and 135 at Subordinates Court of Tripura till November 25 last year.
Later, sharing details about convictions in rape cases in last four years, CM Saha stated that total 25 convictions including 6 at High Court of Tripura and 19 at Subordinates Court of Tripura were recorded till November 25 last year.
In 2021, total 20 convictions including 7 at High Court of Tripura and 13 at Subordinates Court of Tripura were recorded.
Total 27 convictions including 7 at the High Court of Tripura and 20 at Subordinates Court of Tripura were recorded in 2022 while the next year, total 53 convictions including 13 at High Court of Tripura and 40 at Subordinates Court of Tripura were recorded.
