The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said: “On November 7, based on specific intelligence input from agencies, regarding infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in Keran sector of Kupwara. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire.”

Soldier injured in Chhatru shootout

Earlier this week, paratrooper sustained injuries on Wednesday during a shootout between terrorists and security forces in the Chhatru area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district.

The gunfight erupted after troops launched an operation in the Kalaban forest area based on specific intelligence inputs earlier in the day. The injured soldier was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The White Knight Corps, in a post on its official X handle, said, “Based on intelligence inputs and in coordination with J&K Police, alert troops of White Knight Corps made contact with terrorists in the Chhatru area.”

Security forces and police have intensified anti-terror operations across Doda, Kishtwar, and Udhampur districts, leading to multiple encounters in recent months — including nearly six in Kishtwar alone over the past half year.

In April, two terrorists were neutralised by security forces during an operation in the same Chhatru area. Earlier, on August 11-12, terrorists managed to escape after an exchange of fire with security personnel.

Last year, on September 13, two soldiers — including a Junior Commissioned Officer — lost their lives, and two others were injured during an encounter with terrorists in Chhatru.
