NIA DSP along with two agents arrested by CBI

The CBI spokesperson alleged that in order to help him escape the consequences, DSP Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2.5 crore from him.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested three persons, including a senior NIA official for allegedly demanding Rs 2.5 crore from a man after threatening to implicate his family members for illegally stocking unlicensed assault weapons.

“The arrested persons have been identified as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ajay Pratap Singh, posted with NIA’s Patna branch, and two middlemen: Ritik Kumar Singh and one more. Ajay is an Income Tax official and is on deputation to NIA. Several incriminating documents and digital devices have been recovered so far during the searches in addition to Rs 20 lakh bribe money,” a CBI spokesperson said.

“The complainant, a resident of Bihar’s Gaya, approached CBI alleging that DSP Ajay has been extorting money from him by threatening to fabricate his family in a criminal case and falsely implicating his family for illegally stocking unlicensed assault weapons. It was disclosed that the NIA had registered a case in connection with this matter and searches were conducted on September 19 at the residence and office of the complainant,” the spokesperson said.

“Following these searches, DSP Singh issued a notice on September 24, summoning the complainant to appear before the NIA office Patna on September 26. The complainant appeared before the IO on the given date. During interrogation, it was alleged that DSP Singh threatened the complainant with implicating him in the criminal case and to face severe consequences,” the spokesperson added.

The CBI spokesperson alleged that in order to help him escape the consequences, DSP Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2.5 crore from him. “He initially paid Rs 25 lakh and he was again summoned on October 1. He was asked to pay Rs 70 lakh. The entire matter was also brought in the knowledge of senior officials of NIA by the CBI team, who also ensured effective supervision of the matter along with the CBI team,” the spokesperson said.
