Stating that 63 ships were being built in India at present, the President said India is one of only six nations in the world that has the capability to design, build, and operate both a ballistic missile nuclear submarine and an aircraft carrier.
The President was speaking at the Indian Navy’s operational demonstration (Op-Demo) organised at Puri sea beach on the occasion of Navy Day, which is celebrated to commemorate Operation Trident, the attack on Karachi harbour during the Indo-Pak War in 1971.
“The seamless integration of advanced technology, tactical acumen and sheer courage on display today aptly showcase the evolution of our Navy into a combat-ready, future-ready, and credible force,” said Murmu.
“As India’s economy grows and our interests and influence expand across the globe, I am confident that the Indian Navy will continue to ensure maritime security, essential to enable our rise to a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” Murmu added.
Murmu praised the Navy’s efforts in providing growth avenues to “nari shakti”. “The Navy was the first service to induct women Agniveers and continues to ensure that all ranks and all roles, including combat functions, are available to all women,” she said.
Recalling India’s glorious maritime past, the President said the country’s shipbuilding prowess and ability to harness the monsoon wind patterns enabled the nation to dominate seaborne trade.
The Op-Demo covered many facets of naval operations by ships, submarines, aircraft, marine commandos, and Indian Army personnel. It also aimed to bring focus to the Navy’s rich maritime history and demonstrated the valour and courage of its personnel and their resolve to safeguard national maritime interests “anytime, anywhere, anyhow”. It showcased the Indian Navy’s state-of-the-art ships and aircraft.
