The Manipur Police on Saturday disposed of over 332 kg of seized narcotic substances at the Shija Common Bio Medical Waste Treatment Facility in Imphal West district. The disposed drugs include 6 kg of heroin powder, 86.871 kg of brown sugar, 22.128 kg of WY tablet, 36.079 kg of Pseudoephedrine tablet, 181.687 kg of ganja, and 0.047 kg of SP capsule. Manipur Director General of Police Rajiv Singh said the contraband drugs were seized in operations conducted in different parts of the state by security forces in the last six months. “Every six months, we carry out such a drug disposal programme to prevent leakage,” the DGP said. He said that the department is also in touch DGPs of other neighbouring states, such as Nagaland, Mizoram, and Assam, for a combined effort to nab the kingpins. “We have often seen that these drug cartels have interstate connections. In most cases, people who are arrested along with the drugs are carriers,” he said. The drugs disposed of on Saturday were seized in the last six months. In January, the police department destroyed 314.471 kg of assorted drugs as part of the ongoing War on Drugs initiative of the state. Manipur shares 398 km of its border with Myanmar, and most of it is porous. Taking advantage of this porous border, the state is used as a conduit for trafficking illegal items, including drugs and arms, among others.
