Amidst talks of pulls and pressures from ally BJP, JD(U) national president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday reiterated that he has made a “mistake” of joining hands with the RJD twice, but will not repeat it in future.
Nitish’s statement came at a function where he was sharing the stage with BJP national president and Union Health Minister J P Nadda.
“I have committed the mistake of going with them (RJD) twice. But we will now always stay together (with NDA). My association with the BJP goes back to 1995…,” he said.

Without naming the RJD or Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, the CM said: “These days, they (RJD) are trying to drumbeat their achievements and have been finding space in national and state newspapers. But have they done anything? Whatever work was done (in Bihar), it was done by us (JD-U and BJP).”
Praising the BJP president, Nitish said, “For those who do not know, J P Nadda was born in Patna. It is a matter of great pride that he is the president of a big national party. He should keep coming to Bihar. When I go to Delhi, I meet him most of the time.”
Nadda, who is on two-day visit to the state, met the Chief Minister at his residence in Patna. The meeting of the two leaders assumes significance in the backdrop of the NDA government at the Centre retracting its decisions on lateral entry and referring the proposed Waqf (Amendment) Bill to a Joint Parliamentary Committee following objections by its allies, including the JD(U) which has 12 MPs.
Senior JD(U) leader K C Tyagi’s resignation as the party’s national spokesperson last week is being seen as the JD(U)’s attempt to placate the BJP. “Tyagi’s statements on recent contentious issues on Waqf, caste census and SC/ST sub-categorisation did not go down well with the party,” a JD (U) source said.

The meeting between Nadda and Nitish is also being seen as a bid to reaffirm their political camaraderie following speculation over the CM’s customary meeting with Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the selection of two commissioners of the State Information Commission. The Leader of the Opposition is an ex-officio member involved in selection of members of state commissions.
