The Jammu and Kashmir election department on Sunday said it had taken action against 40 government employees for violating the Model Code of Conduct during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024. According to an official communication, four employees were suspended, one was disengaged, disciplinary action was initiated against another, and an inquiry was started against 34 others. The highest number of violations have been reported from Srinagar district, followed by Kulgam and Rajouri as the second highest, and Udhampur and Ganderbal districts as the third highest. The lowest number of violations have been reported from Kishtwar, Bandipora, Reasi, and Samba districts. Two employees have been suspended in Kupwara, one in Ganderbal, and one in Doda district pending an inquiry. One employee has been recommended for disciplinary action due to their involvement in political activities. Additionally, one chowkidar has been dismissed from services for engaging in political activities. The official release added that action against these employees of different departments has been initiated in response to the daily online reports furnished by the district election officers and complaints received on the official e-mail ID of the Jammu and Kashmir chief electoral officer lodged by the general public, office-bearers of different political parties, and panchayati raj institutions regarding the MCC violation.
