The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal (File Photo)India has criticised Pakistan for attempting to blame it for a suicide attack on Saturday in the Waziristan area, of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, that killed at least 13 security personnel and injured 24.
A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden car into a Pakistan military convoy in a town near the Afghan border, the Pakistani army said. The army said the attack was carried out by militants backed by India, an allegation New Delhi rejected.
“We have seen an official statement by the Pakistan Army seeking to blame India for the attack in Waziristan on June 28,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
“We reject this statement with the contempt it deserves,” it said.
The military convoy was attacked in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan district, the army said in a statement. “In this tragic and barbaric incident, three innocent civilians including two children and a woman also got severely injured,” it said.
Fourteen militants were killed by the army in an operation launched after the attack, it said.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and termed it a “cowardly act”. Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir said in a statement any attempt to undermine Pakistan’s internal stability would be met with swift and decisive retribution.
