UP: Bones found during riots ‘of humans’

The police had recovered the bones from ashes at two different places in the village soon after the riots.

Bones recovered from Lisad village in Muzaffarnagar during the communal riots last year have been found to be those of human beings, according to test reports from the Forensic Sciences laboratory (FSL), Lucknow.

The police had recovered the bones from ashes at two different places in the village soon after the riots.

As many as 11 persons of Lisad village, who went missing during the riots, have not been traced so far. Their families had got FIRs registered against unidentified assailants on charge of murder at Fugana police station. In the FIRs, they alleged rioters had set the victims — all above 65 years of age — on fire after killing them. The families had stated that the victims could not escape from the rioters when they had attacked their houses.

Additional SP Manoj Kumar Jha, attached with the Special Investigation Cell (SIC), which is investigating the cases related to the September 2013 riots, said the FSL report has confirmed that the bones are of human beings.

An SIC official said the bones belong to at least two bodies. FSL experts, however, said the DNA profiling of these bones was not possible as they were badly burnt, added Jha.
