Transport dept issues instructions on DL validity

The Haryana transport department on Tuesday directed that from now on,validity of a driving license issued for driving a transport vehicle carrying goods of dangerous or hazardous nature will be valid only one year.

The Haryana transport department on Tuesday directed that from now on,validity of a driving license issued for driving a transport vehicle carrying goods of dangerous or hazardous nature will be valid only one year.

Renewal will be subject to the condition that the driver undergoes one-day refresher course of the prescribed syllabus.

Similarly,a learner’s driving license issued for driving a light motor vehicle (LMV) will be effective for six months. In the case of a license issued to drive a transport vehicle,it will be valid for three years.

Quoting the Section 14 of the Motor Vehicles Act-1988 which deals with the period of validity of a driving license to drive motor vehicles,Transport Commissioner Sumita Misra said: “The directions have been issued to all the concerned sub divisional offices (civil)-cum-licensing authorities in the state. The instructions also mention that if the person obtaining license,either originally or on renewal,has not attained the age of 50 on the date of issue of license,the renewal will be effective for a period of 20 years. However,if the person has attained age of 50,the license will be effective for five years.”
