BJP leader Subramanian Swamy Wednesday moved the Supreme Court, pleading for an early hearing on his plea for providing basic minimum facilities to pilgrims at ‘Ramjanma Bhoomi’ site near the disputed structure at Ayodhya.
Swamy mentioned his application before a bench led by Chief Justice H L Dattu, which said it would fix a date for hearing after pleadings are complete in the matter.
The bench said it would first see if all the parties have filed their responses and the matter is ripe for hearing.
Swamy submitted that the status quo order passed by the apex court in 1996 was limited to prohibiting construction of any permanent structure at the disputed site by any of the parties but he was asking for basic facilities to pilgrims at the Ramjanma Bhoomi.
In his application, Swamy has sought order from the apex court to “ameliorate the lot of million of Hindu pilgrims who make the pilgrimage to the site of the ‘Ramjanma Bhoomi’ at Ayodhya to have ‘darshan’ and perform ‘pooja’ in honour of ‘Sri Ram Lalla Virajman’.”
