SP will not oppose Pawar as PM: Amar Singh

Two UPA allies have said that they would not be averse to accepting the Prime Minister's job if given a chance.

A day after Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi backed Manmohan Singh’s candidature for Prime Ministership after the Lok Sabha polls, two UPA allies on Sunday said that they would not be averse to accepting the top job if given a chance.

“If Sharad Pawar or Mulayam Singh get a chance, then both will not oppose each other,” SP leader Amar Singh told reporters after meeting Pawar in New Delhi.

At the same time Amar Singh said that his party had no objection to Manmohan Singh’s second term in future.

“Right now we have Manmohan Singh as the leader. But in case Sharad Pawar gets a chance or Mulayam Singh gets a chance they will not oppose each other,” he said.

His statement comes at a time when the SP is having a tough time in arriving at an alliance with the Congress in UP.

The NCP is also pressurising the Congress for a better deal in Maharashtra.

NCP and SP have not taken kindly to the Congress decision of not going for a national alliance and instead opt for seat sharing at state level.
