School students mark Earth Day

Nearly 600 students of classes VIII,IX and X participated in The Earth Day celebrations organised at Government High School,Mundian,by Rotary Club Ludhiana Greater.

Nearly 600 students of classes VIII,IX and X participated in The Earth Day celebrations organised at Government High School,Mundian,by Rotary Club Ludhiana Greater. Dr Sanjeev Uppal,President ,Rotary Club Ludhiana Greater and Head of Plastic Surgery at DMCH said,“The earth will continue to regenerate its life sources only as long as we all do our part to conserve its natural resources.” Dr Arvinder Singh,incoming President of the Rotary Club,stressed the need of involvement of the younger generation towards the preservation of environment and ecological balance on the Earth so that coming generations would be able to sustain and live a better life.

Headmistress Kusum,a national awardee,appealed to the children to plant at least one tree each at home as a part of the green Ludhiana movement. She also made children aware of the need for prevention of water pollution and outlined some of the measures to conserve water. Poster,quiz and tree-planting contests were held to make children aware of the value of a pollution-free Earth.

Rekha of class VIIIA came first in the poster-making competition while Gurpreet Singh of class IXA came second and Sohit,also of class IXA,came third. The quiz competition was won by the team which included Sushmeet,Shivani and Mamta while the runners-up were Preet,Rajni and Dilpreet Kaur. Dr Rajanbir Singh Thind and Dr Nupur were the judges for the poster-making contest. An Interact Club,the junior division of Rotary International,was also started in the school on this occasion.
