Need to keep vigil on implementation of Lokpal,says Anna after breaking fast

“We will form a watchdog comprising retired judges and senior police officials with impeccable record to keep a vigil on the government and the Lokpal machinery to see they work properly,” he said.

Anna’s supporters present at the protest site in village Ralegan Siddhi – including those from outside the village – broke into jubilant celebration as soon as the announcement of passage of the contentious Bill was made from the stage by announcers.

The crowd cheered when Kapil Sibal tabled the Bill and when Sushma Swaraj gave Hazare the credit for the Bill. They booed throughout the speech of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and slogans were raised against the party when they walked out.

The celebrations intensified after the 75-year-old activist broke his fast at the hands of three school kids.

Earlier in the day,about half a dozen supporters who were still fasting were asked to break their fast after a decision to that effect was passed in the village gathering.

Those who refused to break their fast were moved to government hospital in Ahmednagar as directed by Hazare.

Villagers said that they had already prepared for celebrations soon after the bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday since the passage of the Bill in Lok Sabha was just a formality.
