Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Chavan.
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Chavan on Saturday expressed disappointment as his home town Nanded was not considered for the smart cities project.
The former chief minister said, “I am upset as Nanded was skipped for the smart cities project. The Centre wants to develop 100 cities across the country. And it is unfortunate Nanded is missing.”
According to Chavan, “Aurangabad is the only city which has made it to smart cities project from Marathwada. The government should have included one more city from Marathwada.” He added, “In Marathwada, we have Latur, Parbhani and Nanded. Atleast one city from these three should have been considered.”
A senior officer said, “The decision to shortlist the smart cities was taken after studying 20 presentations. There was no political considerations. Yet, we ensured every region was covered in the list of ten cities.”
