Mercury rising in Delhi,no relief in sight

Delhiites sweltered in scorching heat as the mercury rose above the 40-degree Celsius mark again with high humidity levels.

Delhiites sweltered in scorching heat on Wednesday as the mercury rose above the 40-degree Celsius mark again with high humidity levels. Westerlies from Rajasthan deserts led to an increase in the night temperature in the national capital by six degrees to cross 30-degree mark for the second time this summer.

The maximum temperature today remained at 40.4 degrees Celsius as against the yesterday’s 39.8 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 31.4 degree Celsius,three notches above the normal,the Met Department said on Wednesday. It was 25.2 degrees Celsius yesterday.

The humidity level was recorded between 68 per cent to 40 per cent,they said.

Night temperature had never crossed the 30-degree mark in the national capital since onset of summer in March,except on May 22 when the minimum touched 30.1 degrees Celsius.

According to Met department,the minimum temperature will hover around 30 degrees and the maximum may go up further. It is expected to be around 41 degrees Celsius from Thursday. From March one this year,the Met office said,the city has received 83.3 mm rain. Last year,the maximum had not crossed 40 degrees Celsius in June with the highest of 38.7 degrees being recorded on the first day of the month.

The record for the past ten years was 45.6 degrees,which was registered on June four and five of 2003,while the minimum slumped to 18 degrees on June 17,2006.
