J&K’s first assembly session to start

The state’s first assembly session for the new government lead by Omar Abdullah will have the government facing a volley of questions over a range of issues.

Jammu and Kashmir’s first assembly session for the new government lead by Chief Minister,Omar Abdullah,which is beginning in Jammu on Wednesday will have the government facing a volley of questions from the legislators over a range of issues.

A total of 555 questions have been filed by the legislators from different political parties before the assembly secretariat are being taken up. Besides that the session will also see the 29 resolutions being taken up which have been moved by the members before the assembly secretariat. Also there is one calling attention motion which will be taken up.

Secretary of the Legislative Assembly,M Ramzan said,“The session will begin today with the Governor’s address for both the sessions of the state legislature. After the Governors address the copy of the address will be tabled before the legislative assembly by the Speaker of the assembly.”

He said that the session will be brief on the first day and after the copy of the Governor’s address was tabled in the state legislature,the session will be adjourned for the day.

Before the session begins with the Governor’s address,the Speaker’s election will be held. NC has named former Deputy Speaker and MLA,Sonawari,Mohammad Akbar Lone,as its Speaker. He is consensus candidate of the NC-Congress alliance. The election will only be a formality as Lone will be elected unanimously.

Secretary Assembly,Mohammad Ramzan,said,“After the Governor N N Vohra,summoned the assembly,we started making arrangements for the holding of session. The arrangements were made in collaboration with the different government departments.

In the assembly session while the BJP will seek to corner the NC-Congress coalition on a range of issues including the alleged discrimination with Jammu region while the PDP policies will remain more Kashmir-centric.
