Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly,Sunil Jakhar,on Monday welcomed Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badals move to develop Balmiki Ashram (Ram Tirath) near Amritsar with an estimated cost of Rs 115 crore.
This will be a befitting tribute to the great saint who is worshipped globally and his teachings are followed by millions of people, including Dalit communities, he said.
Jakhar, however, added that Badal owes an explanation to Dalit communities as to why Rs 3,047 crore earmarked for the welfare of Scheduled Castes in 2012-13 in the sub plan schemes could not be utilised. The CM should also explain to which schemes or plans these precious funds were diverted. The state govt had also failed in releasing the post matric scholarships worth crore of rupees sanctioned by the central government for welfare of SC/ST students…, he said.
