Curfew continues in Kishtwar,life in Jammu returns to normal

Shops and business establishments reopened after several days of curfew in Jammu region.

Shops and offices reopened and people were out doing their chores as normalcy returned to Jammu region a week after outbreak of communal violence in Kishtwar,where curfew did remain clamped for the eighth day on Friday.

“The situation is peaceful– there was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere,” District Magistrate,Kishtwar,Basser Khan said.

“We are thinking of giving relaxation in curfew but that depends about the situation,” he said.

60 injured in Kishtwar Eid clashes

Curfew was imposed on Friday last after communal clashes in which three persons were killed,over 20 others injured and 75 business establishments along with 35 vehicles gutted.

Seven districts,where curfew was lifted by authorities yesterday,have not reported any untoward incidents,official said today.

Shops and business establishments reopened after several days of curfew in Jammu region. Traffic was back on the roads and despite heavy rains lashing the region,people in large number were seen shopping for goods.

Authorities had imposed curfew in Jammu and Rajouri on Saturday after some incidents of violence and curfew was clamped in Reasi,Udhampur,Samba,parts of Doda,Kathua on Sunday.

A total of 141 people have so far been taken into custody in connection with violence on Eid day in Kishtwar.
