The CRPF on Thursday moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking permission to withdraw the security cover given to the girl who was mercilessly thrashed by Punjab Police officers in Tarn Taran on March 3.
Appearing on behalf of the CRPF,Advocate Onkar Singh Batalvi submitted that the Supreme Court has directed the Chandigarh Administration to provide security to the girl and her family. He added that CRPF security personnel were given to the girl since she had no security but after a recent apex court order, the CRPF security cover is no longer required. Taking the application on record, the high court on Thursday asked the girl and her family to respond to the application by May 8.
The girl in question had petitioned the High Court apprehending threat to her and her family. Showing no faith in the Punjab Police, the girl had requested for security from any other police force.
Taking note, the HC had directed the CRPF to provide security to the girl. Prior to this, the Supreme Court had taken suo motu cognisance of the thrashing incident and put Punjab on notices.
The apex court also ordered the Chandgiarh Police,a week ago,to grant security to the girl.
