To probe allegations of planting 550 gm of heroin on a Hoshiarpur resident by policemen, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday ordered constitution of a special investigation team (SIT).
The court directed the director (Punjab Vigilance Bureau) to constitute an SIT of three members, which will be headed by ADGP (Vigilance).
It has been alleged that officers of Hoshiarpur polices Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) had implicated one Ravinder Singh alias Shoki in a narcotics case. Aggrieved,Shoki moved the high court. To corroborate his case,he has annexed a CD that allegedly contains footage of the police officers foisting the narcotics on Shoki.
The policemen in question had no idea that CCTV cameras were at work when they came to arrest Singh from his shop at Bahadurpur in July.
The camera footage showed that two policemen in plain clothes arrived on a motorcycle and immediately took Shoki in custody from outside his shop. Footage from the camera inside the victims shop showed three policemen searching drawers and counting currency notes.
The FIR,however, stated that a CIA police team was on a routine patrolling, when it received information that Shoki had narcotics on him. It added that before searching the packet, the raiding team tried to involve a member of the public as a witness, but no one agreed. The police officers, however, had denied the allegations.
