As the BJP appointed Amit Shah as its president, the Congress Wednesday raked up the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case in which he is an accused and wondered whether the BJP has a dearth of talent that it had to make a person accused in a “murder charge” as its president.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the party generally does not comment on the internal affairs of other parties but argued this was an “unprecedented” development.
“Normally the Congress party is neither interested nor does it comment on the internal affairs or the internal appointments of any political party. The reason I am commenting is because it is unprecedented to find the party in power which is running the government appointing freshly a person as president who is accused in a murder charge and is out on bail,” he said.
Singhvi said he was “not casting any aspersions or using subjective adjectives but stating objective facts”. Singhvi also pointed out that Shah was externed from a state of India for two years by an order of the Supreme Court.
“The nation is obviously mystified as to how no other better talent is available in the BJP except a murder accused on bail,” he added.
