Rahul Gandhi met a cross-section of people — minorities, SCs/STs, farmers and porters, and unorganised sector workers — as part of his public consultations to seek inputs for the party manifesto. These were all well-publicised events as live feed was made available to television channels and it was even uploaded on YouTube. However, when he met corporate chieftains and industry delegations as part of consultations, it was all hush-hush. The party has chosen not to even talk about these interactions. Grapevine has it that meetings with captains of the industry were in-camera keeping in view Rahul’s focus on “two Indias”.

PAINFUL REMINDER

The name chosen by Indian authorities for the search mission for the missing Malaysian flight has brought some painful memories and a cry of protest from military historians. The multi-platform mission has been designated as ‘Operation Searchlight’. Unfortunately, this ‘codename’ was most infamously used in 1971 when the Pakistani army cracked down on the Bengali nationalist movement, resulting in mass atrocities in what was then East Pakistan.

Dalit leader Udit Raj, who recently joined the BJP, has taken to targeting AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of being anti-reservation in the past. Hurling a range of allegations, Raj claimed he knew the reality of Kejriwal like none other simply because he worked with him. Kejriwal was junior to Raj when the two served in the Indian Revenue Service and clearly the AAP leader failed to impress his senior.

PLAN JUNKED

The MHA has dashed the plan of the NIA to open a field office in Patna on the lines of Mumbai and Kochi. After the Patna blasts during Narendra Modi’s rally last October, the agency had revived a project to start the field office in Bihar capital following the emergence of the Indian Mujahideen’s Bihar module and Naxal activities. However, the MHA turned down the proposal recently, citing that the agency can always set up a camp for investigation of cases and there was no requirement of a permanent set up.
