Coal scam: Govt to submit report to CBI on missing files by Sept 13

“CBI has been informed about the documents that could be located. Further,update will be furnished in the next 2-3 days and a detailed report will be submitted by September 13,2013,” an official statement said here.

“These documents are in the process of getting reconciled with the investigating agency,” the statement said.

Jaiswal admits to missing files on coal block allocations

Earlier in the day Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said: “The list of the (files) which could not be located would be handed over to CBI either on Wednesday or by Friday.

“Then lodge FIR (against the missing files) or take appropriate action.”

Meanwhile,the Coal Ministry today reviewed the efforts being made to locate the documents mentioned in the lists sent by CBI.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the ministries of coal,steel and power among others.

The statement said: “It is seen that the officers of the various search teams which had been constituted for the said purpose had worked hard including on Saturdays and Sundays to locate all such documents.

“These teams had searched documents in the ministry,in Lok Nayak Bhawan,in the Ranchi Office of CMPDIL and in the offices of Coal India Ltd,including its subsidiary coal companies.”

Meanwhile,according to sources,the Steel Ministry is still to locate 10 more files sought by CBI.

The issue of missing files snowballed into a controversy in Parliament even as the Supreme Court directed the CBI to furnish a comprehensive list of documents/files/information that are yet to be received from the government.

The Coal Ministry said last week that it has directed ministries and departments concerned to locate the missing files even if it meant working over the weekend.

Slamming the Centre for not lodging FIRs on the missing files,the apex court had on August 29 given two weeks to the government to make available the requisitioned documents,a list of which has been given by the CBI to the ministry.

The Ministry had asked other ministries to constitute search teams to facilitate investigations into the issue.

It set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee,headed by Additional Secretary (Coal),to locate the documents requisitioned by the CBI,which has so far held five meetings.

The government recently said in the Rajya Sabha that seven files,173 applications and nine other documents pertaining to coal block allocations were not traceable and

efforts were on to locate them.
