Murder convict attempts suicide in Amritsar jail

Amritsar: A man convicted for murder tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from the washroom water tank inside Amritsar Central Jail on Saturday afternoon. A case has been registered against Baljit Singh. Jail Additional Superintendent R K Sharma said Baljit tried to commit suicide by making a thin rope of strings used to sew jute bags. “One of the jail warders saw him do this and managed to get hold of him,” Sharma said,adding that minutes before attempting suicide,Baljit had met his wife and daughters,and there was altercation between them.

Law will take its course in drug-haul case: CM

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday said that law would take its course in Olympic medalist Boxer Vijender Singh’s suspected involvement in the drug-haul case. The Chief Minister,who was in Jhajjar,also said that he did not think that the state’s star boxer could be involved in such a case.

Farmer gets Rs 5 lakh from prez for his machine

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has appreciated the efforts made by a farmer of Damla village in Yamunanagar district in making a multi-purpose food processing machine. The farmer,Dharamvir Kamboj,Rs 5 lakh and a citation from the President for his machine. He met Hooda at New Delhi on Sunday.

Three more railway lines approved: CM

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday said that the Rewari-Jhajjar-Rothak railway line has become functional while three more railway lines have been approved in the budget. Addressing a gathering at the 98th annual function of Mahavidyalaya Gurukul in Jhajjar,the chief minister said that the previous state government had never paid heed to the railway sector.

Woman held for hiring killers to kill husband

Chandigarh: The Haryana Police has arrested a woman in Rohtak for allegedly hiring contract killers to murder her husband. They added that the woman hired them with the help of her lover. The incident came to light after the body of Satish Fauji,a resident of Shastri Nagar,was found in a drain in Rohtak on February 10. A police spokesman said that during investigation the accused admitted that she had given Rs 2 lakh to contract killers for getting her husband killed. Olice are on the lookout for the other accused.

‘Haryana to have public health cadre’

Chandigarh: The Haryana government would introduce a new public health cadre under various programmes,said Health Minister Rao Narender Singh. He added that the government had also decided to provide facility for CT scan and MRI scan in all the district hospitals at highly subsidised rates by bringing in private investment on public-private partnership mode. He also said that efforts were being made to improve health indicators in the state.
