Boy hurt while trying to take selfie dies

The police identified the victim as Shihabudeen, 14, from Chalissery in Palakkad.

A 14-year-old boy, who suffered severe burn injuries while trying to take selfie atop a stationary train in Palakkad district of Kerala last week, succumbed to his injuries at Thrissur Medical College Hospital on Monday night.

The police identified the victim as Shihabudeen, 14, from Chalissery in Palakkad.

The incident took place on August 5. Shihabudeen allegedly came in contact with an 25,000 mw, high-tension overhead electric cable while he was trying to take a picture of himself atop a stationary goods train in Shornoor yard. The impact was so high that the boy fell off the train. Shihabudeen was found by locals with 60 per cent burn injuries.

Another such incident was reported in Kerala in May when a teenager was knocked down by a running train while allegedly attempting to click a selfie.
