Making Mandi Parliamentary constituency, which elected Virbhadra Singh in 2009,its new battle ground for upcoming 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the state unit of the BJP Saturday started its three-day brainstorming session in Kullu to frame a road map for the next elections, including the impending Mandi by-polls.
Virbhadra had defeated Maheswar Singh by a few thousand votes for Mandi seat, while BJP had won Kangra,Hamirpur and Shimla.
This will be followed by a two-day meeting of the party executive, which has a heavy agenda on its table, added Dutt.
The venue of the brainstorming session is interesting as the BJP lost the Assembly seat in 2012 to Maheshwar Singh, who quit BJP over issue of corruption and formed his own political outfit – Himachal Lokhit Party.
Top party leaders including former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and BJP president Satpal Satti have already reached Kullu while veteran BJP leader and former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar has informed Satti about his non-availability for the meeting since he had engagements in Delhi. Its not sure if all loyalist, who had been lying low, will attend the meeting on Sunday.
The main engagement of the party is to draw up a strategy for Lok Sabha elections, which may be held at anytime if we look at the national scenario. There is also by-election in Mandi,a seat resigned by the Chief Minister. We are all prepared and will fine-tune the strategies, said Satti.
Meanwhile, the partys disciplinary committee will probe complaints against 173 BJP leaders and workers on their conduct during the 2012 Assembly elections. But,reports say that compulsions of Lok Sabha polls may soften the party’s stand against its erring leaders.
