An auto-lifter,who stole over 1,000 vehicles in the past 20 years, was arrested from Haryana’s Faridabad district in connection with the murder of TV news producer Soumya Vishwanathan, police said.
Ajay Sethi, who allegedly bought the car used by Ravi Kapoor-led gang to shoot at Viswanathan six months ago,was caught by police near Faridabad-Badarpur border last night,Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal told PTI.
Police also recovered the car used by the gang from Sethi’s possession.
Sethi, who managed to give police a slip last week during one of its raids, was driving a stolen car when he was arrested by a special team of Delhi Police,Dhaliwal said, adding he has no direct involvement in the crime.
He was on the run since March 23 after four persons — Ravi Kapoor,Amit Kumar Shukla,Baljeet Malik and Vijay Kumar — were arrested in connection with the murders of Vishwanathan and IT executive Jigisha Ghosh.
“Sethi was not aware that the WagonR handed over to him by Kapoor was used in a high-profile murder. He knew it was used in a murder but was not aware that it was used in Soumya’s murder,” he said.
