16-year-old commits suicide after failing semester exams

A 16-year-old student of a government school allegedly committed suicide in Rajendra Park,Gurgaon,on Sunday after she failed to clear her first semester examinations.

A 16-year-old student of a government school allegedly committed suicide in Rajendra Park,Gurgaon,on Sunday after she failed to clear her first semester examinations.

Rajesh Kumari was studying in Class XI in Government School,Dhankot. According to police,the exam results had been declared during the weekend,and Rajesh,along with her mother and two sisters,had gone to school collect her report card.

During a parent-teacher meeting,Rajesh found out that she had failed in all her subjects.

After returning home,she went to her room and hanged herself from the ceiling fan using her school uniform. Her mother and sisters were away at the market at the time.

The girl was rushed to the Kalyani Hospital in Gurgaon but doctors declared her dead on arrival. She was cremated in Dhankot on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place around noon on Sunday but was reported to the police later.

Vijender Hooda,SHO of Rajendra Park police station,said,“It is a case of suicide. The parents have made no other complaints. We had sent her body for a post-mortem. Reports are yet to come.”

The girl’s brother Subhash said that his sister couldn’t come to terms with her marks. “When she received the report card,she started to cry inconsolably in front of her teachers and pleaded them to give her another chance,” he said. She then tore the report card in anger and dismay,” Subhash said.

Subhash said his sister had always been an average student. “Last year she secured 60%. We don’t know how this could be possible. She once complained that her teacher,Sunil,was giving her low grades even after she had given her best shot,” he said.
