Moderate polling was reported from the Jammu Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu and Kashmir that went to polls on Thursday in the first phase.

Large number of voters were seen waiting outside the polling stations in all the 20 Assembly constituencies spread across four districts to exercise their franchise.

Of the total six seats in the state,only Jammu segment is going to polls on Thursday. The five others seats are spread over in the remaining four phases.

104-year-old Munshi Ram was among the first to cast his vote at a polling station in Nowshera tehsil of Rajouri district.

A total of 17.21 lakh voters,including 23,674 service voters,are eligible to exercise their franchise at 2,210 polling booths in the elections.

Officials said there were no reports of untoward incidents from anywhere in the state.

They said Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were replaced in four polling booths.

Sitting MP Madan Lal Sharma of Congress is taking on BJP candidate Leela Karan Sharma and PDP nominee T S Bajwa.
