Compensation for snake bite victims

As per a notification issued by the Punjab government last month,snake bite victims or their kin will now be eligible for a compensation.

As per the notification,Rs 1 lakh will be paid in case of loss of human life,Rs 20,000 for grievous injuries and up to Rs 5,000 towards actual cost of treatment for minor injuries caused by snake bite.

Centres to check mid-day meals set up

Chandigarh: In order to redress grievances and invite suggestions of people regarding the mid-day meal scheme being run in government schools,the Haryana Elementary Education Department has set up a Suggestion and Assistance Centre. “Anyone can register his/her complaint or suggestion by calling on 0172-6531244 between 9 am and 5 pm or by sending an e-mail at mdmhry@gmail.com,” a state government spokesperson said.

47 watershed projects approved

Chandigarh: The Union Ministry of Rural Development,Department of Land Resources,has approved 47 watershed development projects covering an area of 1,79,531 hectares in seven districts of Haryana. “The projects will be initiated with the objective to control severity of drought conditions,integrated development of soil and moisture conservation,water resource development,afforestation and pasture development,” a state government spokesperson said.

‘Ladli scheme curbing female foeticide’

Chandigarh: The state government claimed to have benefited 1,62,644 people under the Ladli scheme,initiated to curb the practice of female foeticide and improve the declining sex ratio in Haryana,till June. Sumita Mishra,Director,General Women and Child Development Department said,“Under the scheme,Rs 5,000 is given every year for five years to families on the birth of a second daughter”.

‘Development of tribal belt on priority’

Shimla: On the final days of his three-day tour of the state’s tribal belt,Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Sunday reassured people that development of the area – more than 80 per cent of which remains under snow for almost seven months a year was one of the priorities of the government. “The government is ensuring development of tribal areas for which nine per cent outlay of the state plan has been earmarked,” Dhumal said at a public rally in Kinnaur.

Sidhu bats for a solar Amritsar city

Amritsar: Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu,Chief Parliamentary Secretary,Health and Family Welfare,Punjab,met Balour Singh,Director of Punjab Energy Development Agency,on Sunday and discussed the issue of making Amritsar a solar city. A project worth nearly Rs 7 project will be taken up in the initial phase to provide solar street lights to 70 villages of Amritsar,stated a press release.

PSPCL to extend services to 47 towns

Chandigarh: Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is set to extend its ambit of services in 47 towns. Centralised Electricity Call Centre will be set up in Ludhiana,besides Customer Care Centres in six districts of the state.

Camps to test adulteration of milk

Chandigarh: The Punjab Dairy Development Department has decided to organise milk adulteration testing camps in all the district of the state to provide quality and unadulterated milk to people.
