Sonia remarks expose farce that Vadra is private citizen: BJP

On Sonia’s criticism of the second anniversary celebrations of the NDA government, Sharma claimed the government’s publicity drive was not to “show off”, but a “campaign” to share its “successes” with the people as it was necessary to tell the masses that it had succeeded where the Congress had “failed”.

The BJP on Tuesday hit back at Congress chief Sonia Gandhi over her defence of son-in-law Robert Vadra, saying her comments had exposed the “farce” that Vadra was a private citizen.

“The Congress chief’s comments have exposed this farce that Vadra is merely a private citizen. It has established that he is the Gandhi family and the Gandhi family is him. When we conduct a probe, then Congress quickly dismisses it as vendetta. The BJP wonders why she is so rattled over some questions being asked about Vadra over some media reports,” said BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma.

Regarding accusations about Vadra’s links with an arms dealer and a property in London, Sonia said that “one family” was being targeted as part of a conspiracy. “It is all part of a conspiracy like ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’. Everyday, members of one family are being targeted… Conduct a fair inquiry without any bias to make things clear,” she said.

On Sonia likening PM Narendra Modi with a ‘shahenshah’, Sharma said, “Those who behaved and ruled like ‘shahenshah’ were sent packing by voters in 2014. In the recent elections also, they were rejected by people. Those emperors are now on bail in the National Herald case, involving corruption of over Rs 5,000 crore. PM Modi has said he is ‘Pradhan Sewak’.”

Singh said he knew Bhandari because their children went to the same school. “My association is social, unlike Vadra… Moreover, the Congress alleged that I made 450 calls to the defence dealer in a short period. This is factually incorrect,” Singh said in a statement.

“I am open to any investigation,” he added.
