Modi was speaking in full flow when he stopped as the muezzin made the call for prayer from Golbari Masjid. “This is our parampara (heritage). We should pay respect to all religions and respect their rituals and customs… We should be respectful so that the unity of India is maintained,” he said after the muezzin’s call for evening prayers ended.
The gesture impressed many in the crowd. “That was really sensitive of him. I will vote for him if he delivers on all his promises,” said Mansoor Syed, a college student.
